Masters in Health Policy and Management

The Program will Focus on:
1.   Providing basic understanding of the total healthcare delivery system, its complexities and the role of an individual healthcare institution.
2.   Developing deeper understanding of multi disciplinary and multidimensional nature of healthcare management.
3.   Providing scientific management approach and adequate managerial tools to improve managerial skills.
4.   Helping to develop strategic thinking and critical awareness in management style and constantly weigh its appropriateness to deal with various professional groups, skilled and unskilled staff, patient and their families and members of the community.
5.   Developing quality oriented managers deeply committed to high quality services sensitive to the need of patient care as well as community at the same time highly cost conscious with commitment to keep service cost within the reach of the common people.

Duration
The course is of two years duration with Four terms two terms for each year.
Eligibility
Students who have passed MBBS from any PMDC recognized Local or foreign Universities are eligible to apply. However first preference will be given to those who hold a Masters in Public Health, or M.Sc in epidemiology/ biostatistics, and/or post graduate Diploma in Health Planning, and Management. Graduates from other allied fields demonstrating appreciable experience in health or health related fields can also be considered. All applicants will appear in an Entry Test.
Exams
Each Semester will consist of a Term Exam followed by practicals/ orals. 70% weightage will be given to these exams. However 30% weightage will be given to internal assessment which will consist of monthly tests, class performance and mid term exam. Scoring 50% marks in both is a pre-requisite for passing.

Practical Training
Students shall be posted to various hospitals, corporate, public, specialty and super specialty for practical training. 
Dissertation
Each student shall carry out work on a selected topic under guidance of a postgraduate teacher recognized by the University. Acceptance of the dissertation is a precondition to appear for the final examination. The Student has to defend his/her dissertation  in a viva/voce examinations.
Course Requirements

Attendance & Participation:
This course meets thrice per week. Students are expected to attend and participate in the 2-hour lecture and discussion sessions. This participation includes reading 3-4 relevant articles assigned by the lecturers prior to each class. 80% attendance is a must for sitting in examinations.
Students are encouraged to work in groups on the problem sets and cases. Collaboration should be treated as an aid to individual learning, not a substitute for it, and the preparation of the final version of each assignment should be individual, not a group, exercise.
